This letter is intended to be a short synopsis on the benefits, advantages, and financial opportunities of the Total Zone^® ozone generation systems using International Ozone Technologies Group, Inc.'s patented "SP-ARC" (Silicate Polarized Arc) technology.

Let me start at the beginning. Ozone is a hybrid or activated form of oxygen with three oxygen atoms (O³) rather than two (O²). This third atom is very loosely held and will jump onto or combine with any other organic compound thus converting the compound through oxidation to a different compound and if given enough time will convert the compound down to its basic structure of carbon dioxide and water. An example would be carbon monoxide (CO), a deadly gas, having the third oxygen molecule combine with it to form carbon dioxide (CO²), a pretty much harmless substance.

Ozone is produced naturally in nature by high voltage lightning strikes. I'm sure you have noticed how fresh and clean the air is after a thunderstorm. What has happened is that ozone has been produced by lightning and has oxidized the pollutants from the air. Ozone is also produced by the ultraviolet rays in sunlight reacting with organics in the air. Many times smog is referred to as ozone. This is incorrect, smog is a combination of pollutants in the air where ozone is actually oxidizing or destroying the pollutants and cleaning the air. Ozone is nature's air purifier and deodorizer. Ozone can be used to get rid of odors (smoke, urine, gases, water damage, pet, etc.) and also to destroy bacteria, mold, virus, mildew, germs, etc. Ozone can also purify water for drinking, swimming, pollution and odor control, just to name a few. Most bottled water is sterilized with ozone because once it does its job it converts back to oxygen leaving no harmful chemicals behind.

As stated above, once ozone has lost its third atom and done its job it converts back to oxygen. In most cases ozone has a half-life of less than twenty minutes. Do to this fact ozone cannot be stored for use at a later time and must be produced at the point of use. Ozone can be produced artificially through two different processes. The first is with ultraviolet light in the 254+185-nanometer wavelength. This procedure does produce ozone but not in high concentrations or strengths. The advantage of the ultraviolet systems is that it is pretty much maintenance free for a period of up to 10,000 hours of use. The second process of producing ozone is called corona discharge. This process takes a high voltage arc, usually 10,000 volts or higher, and passes it through a dielectric to generate an arc which will produce high concentrations of ozone. The downside to the corona discharge method is that it usually entails a lot of maintenance and cleaning to keep the system working. To summarize - ultraviolet makes a small amount of ozone with low maintenance where corona discharge makes a lot of ozone with high maintenance.
